Sugar Taylor Co. and SPACEs IN ACTION are coming together for the Home Sweet Hope project.
Our quest is to give hope to foster children aging out of the system and currently transitioning from or looking to prevent homelessness, through personalized interior design. We believe that HOPE begins with the HOME, and everyone deserves an inspiring nest from which to set forth and persue their dreams.
As a child, designer Sugar experienced traumatic effects of drug abuse of her parents, suicide of her father, and eventually homelessness as a teen. It is her mission to give something to those currently moving into their own place after living in a shelter or in the foster care system.
“I just remember how long I slept on a bare mattress, when I overcame homelessness. I remember how disheartening it was.. I want people to feel like they are HOME right away. It can give people HOPE for the future. That’s just so powerful.”
SPACEs in Action is a 501(3)c organization that helps to fight for financial equity, access to affordable childcare, and represents under-funded communities.
Poverty runs very deep. It is a mentality as much as a financial circumstance, and we want to attack this statistic. Foster children age out of the system often with no where to go. HOME SWEET HOPE will begin with designing dorms and spaces for these children, and eventually seek to connect these youth with affordable housing and other programs to help them build a life for themselves. We are currently seeking financial donations as well as interior design partners and suppliers, to help meet the demand for this service.
If you are a designer and would like to sponsor a youth, please send an email to info@hopesweethope.co
Imagine you have lived your entire childhood bouncing from home to home, and now, you are turning 18. You get placed in an apartment, or you get a college dorm. Then, a team of designers show up and decorate your space for you, and connect you with programs and internship opportunities to better yourself. For once, you feel HOPE. That is what this program is about.
we use our connections through and beyond spaces in action community focused groups, to identify a youth in need that fits our criteria: they will soon age out of the foster care system and they either have housing or need it.
We work with an assigned interior designer to create a space plan for the youth once they move in. Completely free, and based on their taste and style.
the design plan is implemented in the youth's space. their new home. then, we look to the community to connect them with programs and opportunities to help them better themselves, providing and ongoing mentorship.
We currently need donations so that we can afford the furnishings, and partnerships with large retailers and organizations who can help us provide these services. We also need designers who are willing to take on one -two projects per year so that we can service more youth.
